Nicholas Bogolubov (1924-2003)
Nicholas Bogolubov passed away in 2003 but in the hearts and memories of the many friends and family members whom he touched with his generosity and gentle nature, he lives on. And he lives on through his paintings, which was something he did throughout his life. As one can see from the many examples on this website, he was extremely talented and technically proficient. But he was more than that. He loved painting and especially painting with oils, which allowed him a spontaneity and malleability with his favorite subject matter — the world around him at any given moment. While there is a veracity in what he painted in relationship to what he saw, there is also something else, something that hints at the internalized — moods, melancholies, joys. What seemed to matter most to Nicholas was to capture what existed on his palette — the oozing and glistening substance squeezed out of a tube — and magically become a world of its own on canvas. Next year, in 2024, Nicholas Bogolubov would have turned 100 years old. This website is dedicated to him.
